Experience the incredible work of several local Indigenous artists, coming together to share their passions, perspectives & stories. Artists from a variety of First Nations & backgrounds are on display, working across media including carving, painting, fashion & jewelry. These diverse artists tell their stories with their distinct visions & impeccable skills, carrying on the traditions & teaching of their respective cultures & communities, while paving the way forward in exciting new experimentations & endeavours.

Rebecca Baker-Grenier, is a Kwakiutł, Dzawada'enuxw, & Skwxwú7mesh multidisciplinary artist & fashion designer. There is an intimate ancestral connection with the art that Baker-Grenier creates, representing her lineage as an Indigenous woman. Rebecca has been creating her personal & families’ sewn & beaded pow-wow regalia since the age of eleven. She is the regalia designer for the Dancers of Damelahamid’s productions (2016 – present) with her works dancing on national & international stages. Having apprenticed under Himikalas Pam Baker, her collections have appeared on runways in New York, Vancouver & Santa Fe; featured in Vogue & worn on red carpets.

Stone Sam, an emerging Skwxwú7mesh painter & carver, became interested in the traditional Art form at a very young age. Inspired by watching their father, renowned carver Klatle-Bhi, create beautiful pieces in his workshop, Sam was determined to create beautiful pieces like their father. Other important influences include Sam's grandmother, who’s a talented painter. With each piece Sam creates, they want to challenge people’s imaginations.

John Velten, a Dené artist based in Vancouver, whose work spans across various mediums including mural painting, digital art & fashion design. With a diverse background in 3D modelling, animation, and fine arts, Velten's practice is characterized by a fusion of traditional & contemporary techniques, often exploring themes of cultural identity, heritage & social justice.

Lyle Williams, is a Skwxwú7mesh carver based in Xwemelch'stn, where he grew up. He began carving in his youth, learning from his father, Lyle Williams Sr., & alongside the late Willy Watts. With more than 30 years of experience, Williams has developed a unique style that blends traditional Northwest Coast artistry with contemporary influences. Specializing in fine, detailed yellow cedar carvings, his work includes masks, three-dimensional figures, rattles, totem poles & decorative designs. Drawing inspiration from Indigenous animal legends, his carvings often feature killer whales, salmon, eagles, owls, seals, hawks & otters - each carrying cultural meaning & storytelling.

We are pleased & grateful to work with Kolten Khasalus Grant as Exhibition Advisor, to bring these artists together & share a vision of community & legacy. Grant is an artist of  Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw, Kwaguł, Tlingit, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh & St’atl’imc ancestry. He is a wood carver of traditional & contemporary Masks, Frontlets, Panels, Bent-boxes, Rattles, Regalia, Drums, Totem Poles, House Posts & more; as well as painted design work, silver/gold jewelry & graphic design. He was born & raised in the village of Xwemelch’stn within the homelands of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nation in what is also known as West Vancouver. Grant has been an artist his entire life.

    Liddy Love

    'Bicycle Day'

    Raana Sahraei

    'Swing in Mandarin'

In today’s high-pressure world, it’s easy to dismiss play as an indulgence or a remnant of childhood. Yet, research consistently highlights the profound benefits of play, making it a vital tool for well-being, creativity & resilience.

Liddy Love & Raana Sahraei welcome the deeper possibilities in play through art making. These curious & explorative artists create colourful & fantastical worlds populated by characters & features that represent the freedom found when we embrace the entirety of ourselves.

Liddy Love is a Vancouver based painter whose art is a heartfelt journey back to the innocence & wonder of the inner child. After years of suppressing her creative spirit, she rediscovered painting during the solitude of the 2020 lockdown, finding solace in creating for hours on end. This rekindling of her artistic passion taught her to slow down, breathe & regulate her nervous system. Creating allows Love to delve into themes of self-discovery, healing & the deconstruction of limiting beliefs. Working in acrylics, using vibrant colours & whimsical imagery, she integrates elements inspired by psychedelic experiences which have helped in her journey of healing & discovery. Love challenges traditional perspectives on self-love & personal growth. Her paintings serve as love letters to the inner child within us all - especially those who have felt misunderstood, traumatized, or overlooked - & as an invitation to unlearn old patterns, embrace diversity of experience & allow the heart to lead the way.

Raana Sahraei is a West Vancouver graphic artist & illustrator whose works are celebrations of creativity & exploration. Using pens & markers on paper she creates imaginative worlds filled with vibrant characters. Working intuitively, Sahraei lets these worlds emerge from the shapes she sees in the paper's texture & shadows that fall across the surface. Sketching characters individually, she then assembles them on a the page, crafting relationships & environments with & around them. Sahraei's drawings are small yet detailed, enhanced by vivid monochromatic palettes. These tiny bustling illustrations encourage viewers to look closer & discover the hidden stories & connections within each piece. Whether it is a happy worm between a bird beak or cherries singing together in a city of tiny creatures, her artwork invites viewers to dive into the details & revel in the joy of letting your imagination free.
